I assumed it was a joke, but when I Googled "pround," expecting to find a Snopes or similar entry confirming the sign as a hoax, I instead found many sites also misspelling "proud" as "pround."
Is the sign real? Yikes!
(BTW, my web search for "pround" turned up this very slightly risque joke: http://tinyurl.com/68nz47 )
Not sure if it's real or not, but while trying to find out, I came across http://www.panoramio.com/photos/original/2963176.jpg from the same location (I-40 coming into Texas from New Mexico), which doesn't have the GWB addition. The EXIF data on that photo says that the photo was taken on August 21st, 2001, and according to Wikipedia GWB was inaugurated as President on January 20th, 2001 - not that that says anything in itself, but take it as you will.
ReplyDeleteI should also note that the EXIF data on the photo you linked says that it was saved by Picasa. I also can't find any other pictures to back up that picture. But, as always, you can never know unless you go there yourself - and even then, they probably fixed it once it was pointed out. Oh well.
And then it could be that that is the way they spell "proud" in Texiss. One never knows.

there is a recent time article with pround in it ... until now I had not heard of this mis spelling but it seems to be acceptable ?
