New Column available at WindowsSecrets.com

The first of my new "LangaList Plus" columns is posted at WindowsSecrets.Com. This week, my column answers questions from readers on:

Finding the perfect Web/e-mail hosting service
Avoiding the need for password-recovery tools
The lowdown on Windows Updates Weirdness
Using Vista's Command Prompt

And, of course, there's lots more full-length content from 6 other columnists, too.

You can also rate each column (there's a poll at the end) to let me know how I'm doing. And you can use the "contact" info there to send in questions you might like me to try answering in future columns.

The "Plus" content is available on an honor-system basis: You pay only what you think the content is worth; there's no set fee. Whatever you decide to kick in covers you for an entire year.

More info on the free version and the honor-system Plus version (with my column):

Your support there directly helps me keep the lights lit here. :-)

Thanks!

  1. Fred,

Your return seems to be the result of some unfortunately turbulence in your life, but it is good to have you back anyway. Nobody does it as well.

  2. Fred, I was one of the long time LangaList readers that were sad when you "retired" to take care of yourself for a change. It's good to have you back.

The two topics that I found the most useful to me were the perodic tuning of PC's to enhance their
performance and the related perodic back-up processes.

Without your consistent prodding to do backups I haven't lately. Time constraints, do-it-later, etc, etc and other excuses mean I've forgotten more than I really ever knew about the how-to for both topics.

A refresher course would be very welcomed.

Seperate thought. I was envious when you made your grand tour and did the on-site fix & turn-up visits. It seems that bottling that knowledge and applying it via a remote visit would be of value to many of us. Maybe a check box kind of thing for a first phase with a followup remote review and recommend report.

I've used local guys but their overall knowledge has been lacking so gaps reduce the effectiveness.

It's great to have you back. Hope you will stay awhile.

  4. Your first article coming back to Windows Secrets was 100% right on for my needs as I'm doing the evaluation you suggest.

Keep it up. And I second the road trip reports of fixing problems from your motorcycle. However, as a fellow Winger, I'm biased. :)
