"My plan reduces the national debt, and fast. So fast, in fact, that economists worry that we're going to run out of debt to retire." — GW Bush radio address, Feb. 24, 2001
9/11? What has that to do with the Bush tax cuts? Or the rampant deregulation? Or the "profits above people/profits above the environment" mentality?
You mean the 9/11 that Bush was warned about and that he ignored? Or the 9/11 he used to justify the 100% bogus invasion of Iraq while the man who actually planned the attacks is still free even today? The 9/11 Bush used for the greatest erosion of personal freedoms in the US in over 100 years? The 9/11 that was used to justify the use of torture by the US? (Gosh, remember when we used to be the Good Guys?)
Please. The Neoncons tried that 9/11 mantra during the election--- it was a constant refrain: Everything, anything, all things were justified by 9/11, and none of it was the party in power's fault! It was all 9/11!
And now you're doing it too.
My piece this morning was intended as a small bit of wry, ironic humor. It's just one of the many silly, stupid things that W said during his term; another Bushism from our verbally-challenged erstwhile President. There are whole web sites devoted to Bushisms, and this was just one more: a small bit of humor in a bleak time.
Wow, did I touch a nerve? I was actually talking about the 9/11 in which thousands of innocent human beings were slaughtered. The 9/11 in which both the US congress AND the UN agreed with the Bush administration. If you're going to vilify Bush you have to vilify everyone who went along with him. And, you know what? Bush is gone, good riddance to him. So maybe you should follow you're own advice and "let it go at that"
In fairness, Brian, Anonymous #1 could be considered to be replying to Fred's initial posting. I wouldn't call it an example of trolling. Fred's original post will seem far funnier (in a very sad way) to those of one perspective than another.
Bush has plenty of comic material, but this one was a bit too close to actual policy and inevitably would provoke someone.
I mean, you might as well say something provocative about Macs. :)
I should add, my 'in a very sad way' aside was not a dig at those finding the Bush quotation funny; rather that it is humorous to some of us (me included) because it was so far off the mark.
Fred...the US is and always has been "the good guys." I could care less about your politics...some of which we agree on. As far as questioning whether America stands for good or evil, get a grip. You have no case. Indeed, you are the one who needs to let it go.
Otherwise, I respect you and your phenomenal talent and skills as a brilliant technician and excellent writer...and wish you still published YOUR newsletter. You are the best.
And then 9/11 happened. Priorities,Fred, priorities.

Let it go at that, OK?
Well said Fred!!! Now I know why I like your writing so much!

ReplyDeleteFred, Rule #1 of message boards is: Don't feed the trolls. I know it's not easy to do but once you feed them they keep coming back...
ReplyDeleteSo are you saying Obama's speech to lower the national debt is the same as W's speech or are you saying you expect it will have the same end result?
ReplyDeleteWhere's a boot when you need one?
