Isn't it interesting how much we, as a species (or at least as a culture), seem to need to "fit in". We will do extraordinary things to be part of the group and feel like we belong.
What's most interesting about these experiments is when they were done - apart from Tversky and Kahneman's work, most of them were done way back in the 50s and 60s. This is not because we now know everything, but because these days you can't get an experiment like Milgram's past an ethics committee. Commendable in its way, but on the other hand we've learned a hell of a lot from these somewhat questionable experiments.
