I'm in my host's downtown highrise office, waiting for the staff to show up. I got here at 9 PST, before anyone else. They gave me a keycard yesterday, so I let myself in.

Although the keycard worked correctly, no one had thought to tell me about the entirely separate alarm system, wired into a central office and into building security.
