New computers enhance 40-year old lunar image tapes

A new computer (8 processors and 10 TB of storage) at the Lunar Orbiter Image Recovery Project located at NASA ARC will be used to do near real-time processing of imagery from original Lunar Orbiter analog data tapes that were recovered with the help of restored FR-900 tape drives. A live webcast this coming Thursday will allow you to look over their shoulders as they bring another image to light for the first time in more than 40 years.
