Heart movies: State of the art blow-flow simulation

This video models the flow of blood through the heart of a healthy young man, based on a non-invasive MRI scan of his chest.

The coloured traces show the paths taken by virtual particles in the model: blues flowing through the right side of the heart towards the lungs (deoxygenated blood); yellows and reds flowing through the left side of the heart and down the aorta to the rest of the body (oxygenated blood).

The video won the movie category of this year's British Heart Foundation Reflections of Research competition, which seeks out the most striking depictions of cardiovascular research funded by the charity.
