Tame Win7/Vista Windows' User Account Control

Reader Larry McAspurn is frustrated by the UAC in Vista and Windows 7.
    * "Is there a way to tell Windows not to bring up UAC when I run certain programs?"

Yes, there is. In both Vista and Win7, you can choose among several different levels of UAC interaction.

The idea of UAC is great: it tries to ensure that no software has unauthorized access to administration-level privileges. But Windows can be a terrible nag, and the UAC (especially in Vista) can be  pain in the butt.

There are ways to make it less so. Here's how to take control of UAC in Win7 and Vista.

A detailed, step-by-step how is the first item in my WindowsSecrets.Com newsletter column this week.

Other topics:

  • Stop and remove bogus 'security scans'
  • Desktop icons move mysteriously on their own

A portion of your support helps children in developing countries
Each month, we send a full year of sponsorship to a different child. Your contributions in May are helping us to sponsor Peter, a 7-year-old boy from Zambia. Children International channels development aid from donors to Peter and his community. We also sponsor kids through Save the Children and Plan USA.
