To: fred@langaonline.com Morten has left a new comment on your post "greetings from Alaska": Hi Fred - Enjoy! Just out of curiosity:
What camera and other electronic equipment do You carry with You on
such a trip? Are You bringing a laptop along and what about
power/recharging/handling all those photos? ============== I'm on the road for a full month --- all of June. It's a one-time-only
trip so I'm well-prepped not to miss a shot due to lack of gear. . I have a full-sized notebook and a tiny netbook; two hi-res still
cameras (an Olympus and a Fuji); and a flip-style HD video camera.
Card readers let me dump the photos (almost 300 so far; and 10 or so
videos) to the PCs. My camp lantern is a rechargeable LED-type (although with 4 hours
daylight, it's not really needed); and my flashlights also use
rechargeable batteries. I carry a small 12v-120v inverter in the car; a combo 12v/120v AAA/AA
battery charger; and a 12v phone charger; so I can keep everything
charged and alive. My car has 2 12v sockets; I bought doublers that turn each socket into
two, so I can power 4 things at once. (The GPS is always plugged in,
while I'm moving. And, because parts of the trip are in remote
regions, I also carry a spare GPS, as well as paper maps.) I brought extra fuses in case I overload the car's power circuits,
although that hasn't been a problem yet. The socket-dublers contains
their own fuses, too; and they're well below the rated capacity of the
car's circuits and fuses, for an extra measure of safety. I'm in Anchorage this AM, heading for Fairbanks tonight; tomorrow
(Sat) I'll start on the "Haul Road," the Dempster Highway, to Prudhoe
Bay and the Arctic Ocean. I probably won't be in contact for a week or
so. But my batteries will be well-charged.
