RIP Karen Kenworthy

Karen Kenworthy wrote a very popular column for Windows Magazine, when I was there. She was as good a programmer (I still use some of her "Karenware" software today) as she was a wordsmith (her readers loved her stuff). I have none but positive memories of working with Karen.

Dear Fred,

It is with great sadness that I write to tell you of the death of Karen Kenworthy.  I remember that she spoke of you often in the old Windows Magazine days.  Karen died in her sleep on Tuesday, 12 April.  Here is a link to the obituary that appeared in the Tulsa World:

  1. Thanks for sharing. I also still use some of her software. I was concerned about her health as I had not received a new Karen's Power Tools Newsletter for over a year.

  2. Thanks for sharing this Fred. Condolences to Karen's family. Karen's Power Tools have been on my computers for years now because they were elegant, effective, and very efficient bits of code that did exactly what they said they would without taking over your computer like the bloatware that comes from the big names.

  10. How strange to find out she graduated from Westminster College. I'm a graduate of Geneva College, Westminster's long time "rival." I guess some things make sense to me now. God bless you Karen.

  13. Wow - I found her software site today. I installed "Directory Printer" and was amazed at software that actually did as expected without being bloatware. I used her e-mail site to make a suggestion for the Directory Printer and now find out she has passed on. Sad. You don't find little treasures like these everyday. I hope her friends and family are coping.

  14. I still think about Karen often. She gave so much to the Internet community, and even two years after her passing, the software continues to work. What a special and talented lady...gone much too soon.

  16. I've used Karen's Replicator for years and have just installed it on our new PC. Can't seem to find anything I like better. Thanks for the hard work - wish you were still here making life easier for us all.
