This feed is mostly personal interest; it's NOT my professional writing. There's tech here, yes, but also lots of general science and some politics and weird humor thrown in.

Did you sign up to "go to Mars" with MAVEN?

The Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) mission launches Monday. You may recall that NASA invited anyone and everyone to submit their name, a message, a poem, or whatever else they wanted, to be included on a DVD that would be sent to Mars with the spacecraft.

I sent in mine. Here's the disc, attached to MAVEN as it was being prepped for launch:

MAVEN’s launch window opens on Monday, November 18, 2013, at 1:28 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST). NASA TV coverage of the launch will begin at 11 a.m. EST. Live launch coverage will be carried on all NASA Television channels.
