Many of you may have seen the "House Call" series I did for Windows Secrets. Well, here's the rest of that story--- the non-computer-related portions:

  6. Hey Fred,

It has been a pleasure reading your commentaries, advice, and columns over the years. It feels like you are part of my family.

I wish you all the best in whatever it is you decide to do.

After 25 years in the business myself, I have rebooted to a new career of Direct Response Marketing and sales copywriting.

I am from Stratham NH, over here on the seacoast, and if you are ever in the area, I would be honored to meet you and say Hi!

    Take Care,

  7. Great to see you're going to be making the most of the rest of your life :D I've really enjoyed the LangaList, and later on your columns in Windows Secrets, but I do know that there comes a time when you have to let go.

I'll be keeping up with this blog. :D

  8. Say it ain't so, Fred!

I have been missing your PC insights of late and it looks like that trend is, sadly, going to continue. As an avid motorcyclist and occasional New Englander, I can understand the temptation of that siren's song.

    I wish you the best in your new endeavors. To quote an old Gaelic prayer;

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face and may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

    Thanks for everything, Fred.

  9. Fred,

I finally put 2 and 2 together starting from the gl1800riders.com forum to the advrider.com forum only because I purchased a 2008 Goldwing about 1 month ago and got involved in the forums.

I've been a huge fan of your newsletter and to be honest I really only read your newsletter under the langaList column and then Windows Secrets.

Good luck and maybe I will see you on the backroads.

  11. Fred,
Thank you for your insights, tips, and help for the last 20 years I've been following your journey in the technology world. Sadly, I will miss you and your style of helping people find the best way to have technology enable ordinary people do what they need to have done in their daily lives, along with igniting a sense of curiosity, and wonder about the possibilities of emerging technology could help people pursue their interests, and passions in their lives.
Finally, will your langa.com site still be available in next year or so? I rely on your site for refreshing my knowledge base on a regular basis.

Thank you, Good Health and enjoy the new journey.

    Take care.

  14. Fred, I've enjoyed your writing for a long time. Just wanted to say that I had to force myself to go to bed last night in the middle of your trek across the country, and I'm looking forward to finishing it tonight.

I'd tell you to enjoy your retirement, but something tells me you seem to have that covered...

  15. Fred: Appreciate your handing your column (Langalist) to Windows Secrets before you retired!

Good luck with whatever you choose, and thanks for all of the technical knowledge you've passed on over the years.

You are one of the people who has helped me the most in this "high tech" world. I have followed the LangaList from its inception as a PLUS subscriber. It was phenomenal. I hope your life "after tech writing" is even better .................. cheers and RIDE ON, but come back to us from time to time.

  18. Dear Fred,

I'd been following your Langalist for the last four years or so (alas! I didn't know about it earlier), and allow me to say that it was one of the most well-written and informative newsletters I've ever subscribed to. Sometimes, I just used to let the newsletters remain unread, only so that I could read them all in one great session of reading! :-)

I can totally understand why you'd want a reboot, and my best wishes are with you for happiness in whatever you're doing.

    Take care, and have fun!

  19. Hope that you and your wife may reconcile any differences, and eliminate any problems that would result in a divorce. At 77 years of age (50th anniversery coming up in August, 2008!), it would be devastating for me to lose my wife, who is also my best friend (next only to Almighty God). Whatever the outcome, I wish you the best.

  20. Hey Fred,
Where is the link to the "faith-based vs. scientific beliefs" article?

Sorry to hear you are leaving tech writing, but since I have switched to Linux, I won't need your tips and trick as much!
