Here's one you can do at home: Cut an ordinary seedless grape almost in half--just a little strip of grape skin holding the two halves together. Put the opened-up grape, exposed inside up, on a saucer and put in the microwave. Nuke the grape. You get lots of interesting sparks. The grape works as a dipole antenna for the microwaves. Turn off the microwave as soon as the grape comes apart. I have performed this demonstration several times for assorted groups of children and grandchildren, and never harmed a microwave.
